It was to be another great production, as is now expected whenever SSC stages a programme. And this time, with not much opportunities to prepare given the Term Exams happening around the same time, pupils had to step up to the plate and give their all in order to achieve the set goals. And they sure did just that. Here, Merlie blogs about the Year-End Programme preparations and how the pupils went from 80% ready just a few days prior to showtime, to perfecting their routine by D-Day!
It was a field trip to learn more about Reusing, Reducing and Recycling plus going to a Home for the Aged to share one’s blessings –that all happened last March 7th as the whole Primary School trekked over to the Archival Eco-House and Gasa sa Gugma. Read more about it in Merlie’s blog!
We’re skipping to today and will blog about the pending year-end events after… here’s the recently graduated Primary 6 pupils taking their Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Tests! One last exam before they are officially off for the summer!
Now here’s continuing what happened in the Art & Product Merlion Fair 2014 specifically the much anticipated ART AUCTION that raised a chunk of the CHARITY FUNDS garnered during the Fair. To date, the highest winning bid ever for a single painting (by no other than our Art Club members in Primary School) is at P120,000.00
The SSC pupils hands down voted it the best SCHOOL FAIR ever since this time around, they themselves, from PreSchool to Primary School, managed their own booths as they peddled and sold for CHARITY! Read more about it in Merlie’s blog!
It was a Mad Science Show last Feb 17th at SSC Primary School as pupils actively participated in various experiments that resulted in very cool results just from the mixture of various materials.
6 days to go till we find out how much funds we can raise again for CHARITY! From booths selling food, drinks, games to why even an ukay-ukay, all for charity folks! So see you all at this Sunday’s Art & Product Merlion Fair 2014!
It was PreSchool’s Field Trip last Feb 13th where they planted a tree and shopped for something healthy! Read all about it in Merlie’s Campus blog now!
One of the major adjustments graduating Kinder 2 pupils will have to make when moving up to Primary School would be the fact that school will now be the whole day, and that lunch has to be taken in the campus as well. Thus, rather than waiting for the next school year to start to see how they fare, we instead extend their current time in school to be able to do just that – have lunch in school!
It’s that time of the school year to pose for our official class photos, why even for our annual school photo!
Here is the follow up on P5-P6’s NAIS project on top of the Video Conference with Stanley Clark School in South Bend, Indiana weeks ago. It includes a presentation to the 300+ Grade 6 pupils of Subangdaku Elementary School on how to help them be web smart given limited internet access.
What a thriller Merlie’s TKD Invitational 2014 was! In the end, our SSC TKD Jins brought home 2 Golds, 11 Silvers and 1 Bronze. But more than the medals, it was one amazing experience – even for those who were watching!
When the gathered PreSchool pupils were asked by the School President, “Why are you all in RED today?” A K1 pupil quipped, “Because Teacher Donna said so!” Then another one quickly added… “Because it’s Chinese New Year!” Yes, it was a day full of celebration in SSC last Thursday and here’s telling you more about it!
Last Friday, Jan 24th - was a day our P5 and P6 pupils looked much forward to. No, it wasn’t because it was the last day of Term Exams, but because they were staying overnight in school to make it to a video conference with Stanley Clark School in South Bend Indiana (13 hours behind Philippine time) in relation to their NAIS project.
It’s 3 days away and looks like SSC’s TKD Jins are ready! They’ve been preparing since last November, staying behind in school every Wednesday and Friday, just so they can be their best in the upcoming Merlie’s TKD Invitational 2014 happening at the J Centre this Sat, 01 Feb.
P6 Maths allow the use of calculators as pupils leave basic arithmetic to a machine, while focus is on formulating the answers involving circumference, perimeter, base area and volume of cuboids this Term 3.
Today was the 1st day of Term 3 Exams and Merlie got to snap some action from PreSchool. And what do you know… PERFECT ATTENDANCE today! Just goes to show how these young learners sure take school seriously! And thankfully, no one is sick!
They ran and jumped like never before. Their hearts pounded so fast they thought they were going to collapse. That is how our SSC Football Varsity members recall their 5-month training that led to their 1st and 3rd place finish in last Saturday’s 2014 Merlie’s Cup Football Invitational. Congratulations!
We sent the invites yesterday for those who want to watch the 2014 Merlie’s Cup Football Invitational, happening this Sat, 11 Jan, from 8.00am-4.00pm at the SSC campus. And do help us cheer for our Football Varsity Teams, the RED CUBS (Players 10) and the MERLIONS (Players 12). Please wear Red and/or Grey to show your support for our teams!

‘Educating Today’s Learners for Tomorrow’s World’ was the theme of the Cambridge Schools Conference 2013 in Singapore last October 16th-17th which was attended by 370 educators from around the world, including our School President, Ms. Trixie Suarez and Director for Admissions and Operations, Ms. Aimee Almeida.

Having raised P1million in donations, our sister school, Singapore School Manila via its Head, Ms. Analei Atienza and 8 Student Council officers, came to Cebu last 17 Nov, to extend their help to the thousands of people affected by Typhoon Yolanda in Northern Cebu.
…is what a Primary 2 pupil wrote in his drawing during Arts class, when tasked to express his feelings with everything that is currently going on. And yes indeed, help is on its way after SSC raised through its GIVE IT UP campaign in just 4 days, enough funds to pack 2,000 food bags, 1,200 student’s kits along with sacks of rice, water and boxes of sardines - to be distributed to Northern Cebu next week.
SSC… this is how we can further do our share in helping victims of Typhoon Yolanda! In these poignant times, let’s involve our young learners by encouraging them to GIVE IT UP as we exercise COMPASSION, learn SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY and live the virtue of SHARING.
Back to school where the first hour was spent reminding our pupils what to do in the occurrence of an earthquake or strong aftershock. A Parent of one of our K1 Preschoolers actually shared how her 4 year old totally remembered what to do and even told the panicking adults in their house: “In our school, we were told to be CALM and go under a STRONG table!”
It’s BACK TO SCHOOL for our pupils today. Given that it is also the first day back since the October 15th earthquake and the strong aftershocks that followed, we wish to let everyone know that the FIRST HOUR OF CLASS will involve a General Assembly reminding pupils of the procedures to follow in the event of an earthquake or strong aftershock, as well as a psychological debriefing so we can provide the emotional support pupils may need.
5 SSC Teachers travelled to Bohol to personally handover 1000 food bags (donated and packed by the SSC community) to towns affected by the Oct 15th earthquake.
Please all know that the REVISED SCHEDULE FOR NOV-DEC 2013 as a result of the cancellation of classes starting last week in the aftermath of the Oct 15th earthquake is now available. We have emailed the document or you can also download it from either the school website's login page or from the school blog.
With the use of funds raised from the Merlion Fair Art Auction last Feb 2013, here's how much food 100 thousand pesos can buy, and imagine the thousands it can feed in Bohol affected by last Tuesday's earthquake!
Classes have been suspended till Nov 4th as a result of the continued strong aftershocks after last Oct 15th's 7.2 earthquake. SSC Campus has been thoroughly inspected and a STRUCTURAL CLEARANCE has been forwarded to the City Engineer's Office and the Department of Education. Meanwhile, SSC is helping Bohol by allocating P100k of its charity funds available to send 500 food bags.
