It’s been around a month since you probably last saw us… that is if you attended the final PTC last April 15th! If not, then perhaps our last hello was in the Mar 28th Year-End Programme. In any case, WE ARE ALL (BACK) AT SSC! Specifically, this photo was taken last May 6th, the designated first day where everyone now gets ready for the opening of School Year 2015-2016 with classes commencing this June 8th!
This summer 2015 saw our School President visiting Singapore International School of Bangkok, Chinese American International School in San Francisco and Stanford University in Palo Alto. All to pick up best practices from around the world as SSC enters its 5th year, delivering top quality education in order to derive exceptional levels of performance from its Pupils that keep pace with peers from around the world!
Last April 27, the SSC Department Heads and Senior Teachers, a total party of 12, travelled to Manila to 1) attend training provided by Singapore School Manila and 2) to bond in Tagaytay! Read more about their memorable trip here!
With the Final PTC and Report Cards done and released, that basically brings to a close SY2014-2015 (it was a good one!), and hello SY2015-2016! All events of this past school year can continue to be viewed in the School Blog until May 15th. Last Apr 15th saw the Term 4 and Final Parent Teacher Conference for SY2014-2015 and as has been the case in the previous 3 Terms, an Art Exhibit was likewise on display at Café Vanda, this time featuring P3’s Castlevania and P4’s Cave Paintings!
And right after the Year-End Programme came the Commencement Day for Kinder 2 and Primary 6 which saw all graduates receive their diploma but not after delivering their graduation speeches, performing their graduation song and a Mandarin skit as well to make the 75-minute ceremony truly one to remember! Congratulations 2015 Graduates!

Weather has been blazing hot since March and that can only mean summer is here! Perfect weather really to end Primary & Secondary School’s year… getting WET! Yes, this blog entry meanwhile is about how the bigger ones celebrated their last day in school!

Merlie is back to blog the remaining activities at the end of this past School Year and what could be more fun than ending it WET WET WET! Yes! The school year is done but one last, as we gather at the Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu tomorrow, Mar 28th for SSC’s Year-End Programme followed by K2, P6’s Commencement Day! So we shall see all SSC Families at the Sta. Maria Grand Ballroom! Programme commences at exactly 3.30pm!
It’s the final week in school and it’s even more poignant for the graduating Kinder 2 pupils as they say goodbye to PreSchool and say hello to Primary School. One of the ways we have been getting these 5-6 year olds ready is having them try taking lunch in school and as a result, have a longer class day too as next school year – it’ll be whole day already!
Last 21-22 Feb and 08 Mar saw the SSC Merlions in back-to-back Football competitions that albeit didn’t yield any championship trophy, but surely added to much-needed exposure and experience that will get them closer to a crown next season!
The extended time at school, long hours of practice, and rigorous training sessions sure paid off as our TKD Jins bagged 9 Golds in the recent 3rd Merlie’s TKD Invitational 2015 held last Feb 28th at the J Centre Mall!
It was the IT and Multimedia Club’s turn to have their culminating activity last 23-27 Feb that included a Tech-Xhibit of the games and websites members were able to create, plus all of Primary & Secondary School going through an “Hour of Code”! Read more about it!
Meanwhile, PreSchool had their own version of the CNY Paaarty last 20 February, Friday. In fact, there was one held for the morning sections and another one for the afternoon classes. And the beautiful Silk Ribbon Dance of Primary 5 and 6 set the mood for both parties! It was the Upper Primary & Secondary School's turn to have their Outreach Programme on Feb 12th, teaching Maths and Science to street children at Mercy in Action's Drop-In Centre in Talisay.
This Outreach Programme for Lower Primary School happened last Feb 11th where our pupils got to know better 37 Mercy in Action Scholars and to bring awareness of the plight of many malnourished school children, fed 500 from the Talisay City Elementary School!
The start of the year saw more sports action at SSC starting off with the 2015 Merlie’s Cup Invitational held at the campus last Feb 7th! Congratulations to Team Somerset for winning GOLD in the morning event, and to the MERLIONS for their gallant efforts in the afternoon tournament!
Valentine’s Day last Saturday saw SSC Parents having a date with their child(ren)’s Teachers for Term 3 PTC! But did anyone notice the digital artworks of Primary 5 on display in Café Vanda? These were inspired by the works of Andy Warhol by the way!
“Play with Maths and give your brain a workout!” was just one of the winners in the Group Competition for Mathzania, while the TOP 3 finalists per level from P1-S1 were likewise called to the stage for their gold, silver, and bronze medals, all awarded last Feb 2nd!
Last Jan 30th saw the class of P5 & P6 go to Manila for their Class Trip, which included their participation in SSM’s Academic Quiz Bee that covered Maths, Science & English! Congratulations to all the winners!
Yes, we’re having a party the day before and the day after Chinese New Year which falls on Feb 19th this year! From Dragon Dance to Fun Chinese Games plus an academic Mandarin Challenge too – for sure all the celebration will be a blast!
Last Jan 23rd was the day our PreSchoolers were going to have some fun learning outside their homerooms! And they sure did discovering more about how things they consume everyday are made by the thousands! Thus, the Plant Tour to Gardenia Bakeries and International Pharmaceuticals Inc.!
Hi! It’s Teacher Kat again for one final update on P5-P6’s NAIS Challenge 20/20, the highlight of which was the video conference held last Jan 23rd with Waldron Mercy Academy of Pennsylvania to share notes on the different group’s solutions with regards to natural disaster mitigation.
Yesterday, the Maths Department during Special Time kicked off Mathzania 2015 by officially presenting to the audience composed of P1-S1 pupils, how this year’s competition will run… from the INDIVIDUAL competition to that of the GROUP. Good luck to everyone! You can do it!
