Valentine’s Day last Saturday saw SSC Parents having a date with their child(ren)’s Teachers for Term 3 PTC! But did anyone notice the digital artworks of Primary 5 on display in Café Vanda? These were inspired by the works of Andy Warhol by the way!
“Play with Maths and give your brain a workout!” was just one of the winners in the Group Competition for Mathzania, while the TOP 3 finalists per level from P1-S1 were likewise called to the stage for their gold, silver, and bronze medals, all awarded last Feb 2nd!
Last Jan 30th saw the class of P5 & P6 go to Manila for their Class Trip, which included their participation in SSM’s Academic Quiz Bee that covered Maths, Science & English! Congratulations to all the winners!

Hi! It’s Teacher Kat again for one final update on P5-P6’s NAIS Challenge 20/20, the highlight of which was the video conference held last Jan 23rd with Waldron Mercy Academy of Pennsylvania to share notes on the different group’s solutions with regards to natural disaster mitigation.
Yesterday, the Maths Department during Special Time kicked off Mathzania 2015 by officially presenting to the audience composed of P1-S1 pupils, how this year’s competition will run… from the INDIVIDUAL competition to that of the GROUP. Good luck to everyone! You can do it!

What a long holiday break! So just to make sure our pupils had the opportunity to get back into gear, the day kicked off yesterday with our School President gathering K2-S1 for a general assembly with the goal of: Continuing to give our best and being better than yesterday!
2 more days to go till SSC’s Merlion Holiday Fair 2014, from 4pm-9pm here at the campus. And in preparation for that, we just want to provide this TRAFFIC ADVISORY to ensure everyone’s safety.
I’m sure everyone in town this past week has been rushing to attend this and that holiday celebration. It is most common after all here in the Philippines that this is the time of the year to gather and party with friends, the company and the like! Thus, such is also true for the men and women who make up SSC. And for this year, management decided what better way to hold such an event, than having a GOOD WILL GAMES... STAFF EDITION!

Come the Merlion Holiday Fair this Dec 18th, on top of dropping by the Christmas Tree at the lobby to read the TY Cards made out by each of our SSC pupils, do drop by the different Homerooms as well to marvel at the Teacher & Pupil – made Holiday Decors! A visitor from the PDRRMO (Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office), Mr. Jules Regner spoke to our P5-P6 pupils last 29 November, to tell them more about Natural Disaster preparedness as these kids continue to work on their NAIS Challege 20/20 regarding: Natural Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
Congratulations to brothers Paolo Yu (P1) and Patrick Yu (P3) for topping their levels in the Eye Level Math Olympiad 2014 that pitted them against other participants around the Philippines!
It was good to see our SSC Parents once again last Nov 21st for Parent-Teacher Conference, this time for Term 2. And on display were the artworks of P2 and S1 this past Term as well!
The date was Nov 14, a Friday - and for our SSC PreSchoolers, they have been looking forward to this moment since the start of the school year! Because as each class day passed, they counted 1-2-3-4-5… every ‘Circle Time’ and was told that when the count reached 100 – a party was going to be happening! And that’s exactly what they had!
On top of Project: Recycle & Create, another major component of Science EXPO Week 2014 that ran last 03-10 November was the Class Projects that P1 to S1 worked on, as they discovered how SCIENCE IS AROUND US! Read more about it!
Last Nov 10th was the culminating for Science EXPO Week 2014 @ SSC and everyone gathered at the lobby for the Morning Assembly as the WINNERS for Project: Recycle & Create were announced!

This year, our P5-P6 pupils are collaborating with Allendale Columbia School, New York and Waldron Mercy Academy, Pennsylvania to come up with solutions on the global issue of: Natural Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. And through a video conference last Oct 24th, the kids met up and got the discussion rolling!
After both Lower Primary and PreSchool had their Halloween Job Fair came the event for Upper Primary (that’s P4-P6) and Secondary School (S1). No job hunting here, instead – it was all about becoming a (Halloween) BOY or GIRL SCOUT that included STAYING OVERNIGHT IN SCHOOL!
This time, let’s hear from Teacher Mause, the Department Head of PreSchool for right after Lower Primary’s Halloween Job Fair last 24 October, it was the turn of our 60 PreSchoolers to try their luck in the job market as well!
Before the recent Term Break, everyone at SSC, from Faculty & Staff to Pupils – first enjoyed Halloween with yet another creative theme for this year! A Halloween Job Fair, starting off with Lower Primary School right after their Term Exams! So yes, we had Doctors, Nurses, Firemen, Chefs, Astronauts, Pilots, why even Mad Scientists in the house!

In the recent 2014 ICTSI-JGFP Inter-School Golf Championship held at the Cebu Country Club last 19 & 26 October 2014, we are proud to share that our very own Tatsu Ochia of Primary 5 emerged Champion/1st Place for his Division: Boys Grade 3-5.
50 BUCKETS FULL OF RELIEF GOODS! That’s what our Secondary 1 pupils have been able to put together as part of their Wednesday Club in Terms 1 & 2 where they formed the school’s Disaster Relief Team.
Congratulations to the 50 TKD jins from SSC, now bearing their new belts in Taekwondo after going through their promotion test last Oct 16th as their culminating for Term 1 & 2 PE!
Alas, the final installment on what transpired last Sep 28th at the J Centre with more Kodak moments captured during the all-out Goodwill Games 2014 where the whole SSC Community showed superb teamwork and great sportsmanship!
In the last 2 weeks, the Mandarin phrases being pushed for application were very practical and useful as it was all about food, asking if one has eaten 吃了吗？, what did he/she eat你吃什么？ , and what does he/she like to eat你想吃什么？ Why, even the chefs from Anzani ended up learning too as pupils placed their orders for lunch in Mandarin!
SSC celebrated World Teachers’ Day last Oct 3rd with a surprise programme for its Faculty during the day and a formal dinner in the evening at Anzani! All to recognize and show gratitude to our hardworking and passionate Teachers who day in and day out work towards bringing out the best from each and every pupil at SSC!
Last Oct 1st, our P1-S1 pupils had a field trip to see SCIENCE WORKS, a travelling exhibit that was running in nearby Parkmall. And there, they enjoyed the interactive displays and learnt more about science concepts that apply in many things in the world today!

“A morning of recognition" is truly the best description of what transpired last 24 Sep (Wed) as the medals and certificates for the winners of Literary Week’s Extemporaneous Speechfest and Spelling Bee and the 19 who scored above-average in the ICAS Maths competition were handed to the awardees.
Before the final outcome of the Goodwill Games, there were the Preliminaries that paved the way for the eventual Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists. Here’s what transpired for PreSchool & Upper Primary School who had theirs on the final week leading to the Main Event.
An author by age 10! Yes! And it was during the recent Literary Week that the returning P6 & S1 pupils got to launch the books they wrote last school year as part of the school’s R&W subject requirement.
After Literary Week comes Science Week and in preparation for that, we released today one recycling activity that pupils can prepare beforehand, to be exhibited one month from now.
Imagine one story put together by all our Primary School pupils! That was the STORY CHAIN activity in the recent Literary Week, which was all for fostering our children’s creative writing skills.
That’s how many pages in total our SSC pupils read during Literary Week! Over at SSC PreSchool, we had 5 special Story Tellers read books about friendship, teamwork and believing in yourself, among others!
Last Friday (Sep 19), Lower Primary School and their Families had great bonding time doing outdoor active play as they competed in the Goodwill Games preliminaries. So far, Team SG is in the lead, but for Team PH and Team UK, there’s still the Main Event come Sep 28th!
Congratulations to the 19 SSC pupils from P3-P6 who were recognised for their top marks in the recent International Competition and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), more commonly referred to as the University of New South Wales (UNSW) tests. This was for the subject of Maths, and despite being everyone’s first time to compete, the results were remarkable!
On the 1st day of Literary Week @ SSC, CLIFFORD was here for our SSC PreSchoolers!
Well actually, as early as last week, Primary & Secondary School was already feeling Literary Week as auditions for the Extemporaneous Speechfest were held, as well as the elimination rounds for Spelling Bee.
Drop by the campus in the morning this Term 2 and you are bound to catch the Morning Assembly with our Primary & Secondary pupils now taking bigger roles. From raising the flags to hosting the morning routine, hear this – in Mandarin, the pupils have been rising to the challenge as they take their turns.
Last Sep 8th, Kat Lao Shi and the rest of the Mandarin Department prepared special programs for PreSchool, Primary and Secondary School to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival at SSC! Read more about it in the school blog!
It was good to see our SSC Parents come last Saturday, Sep 6th for the first Parent-Teacher Conference of the school year.
This past Term Break, Teacher Donna, SSC’s Life Coach issued an assignment for the Upper Primary & Secondary pupils to do Round 2 of W.I.S.E.S, this time on their own. And last Friday, Sep 6th, those who submitted exemplary reports received awards for Most Hardworking, Most Creative Report, Most Insightful.
The signages are up on the school frontage, and the reply slips are in. Team Shirts for SG, PH and UK are likewise now available and the first Friday Preliminary is next week. Definitely, the Goodwill Games FEVER IS ON @ SSC!

This year, the culmination of International School Week just happened to fall on the eve of Singapore’s National Day (actual day is on Aug 9th!) so we decided to celebrate such, and actually, make it an annual event from hereon as our way to pay further homage to the country our school is named after.
There was still Day 3 of IS Week where another batch of Parent Speakers came to school to share more about Italy, Japan, South Korea and Australia!
Surmise everyone got their poster invite released today? For this is one of the most anticipated school events of the year that gathers SSC families together, happening this September 2014!
Now Day 2 of IS Week was most memorable because of the Parent Speakers who came to school to share more about their native countries. From Malaysia to France to China, from Sri Lanka to the US of A to Turkey!
It was probably one of the most enriching weeks our pupils have had in school so far, learning about different cultures in the most interactive of ways! In line with what they have been learning in Teen Life about FOOD, the Secondary 1 Class under the mentorship of Teacher Shyla is having a one-day FOOD SALE tomorrow, August 8th at the SSC lobby. What’s more, it’s a FUNDRAISER so please come support by purchasing any of the homemade jams, pickles or custard balls!
For the first time ever, 3 out of the 5 Advisory Board Members of SSC were together in one city, one room, specifically that of San Cristobal at the Radisson Blu Hotel as a Merienda Cena was organised last 29 July, for Parents to meet and likewise discuss different perspectives and views on education and child-rearing in the modern world. It turned out to be an insightful 3-hour gathering of great minds!
Hey kids, how about your Mum and/or Dad join you in the classroom and see how you learn? That’s exactly how the “Will You Be My Classmate” event for SSC PreSchool went last 25 July as Parents joined in the singing, the raising of hands and the seat work!
They came and they saw! Last 24 July, Parents of our Lower Primary School pupils got to catch a glimpse of how their children are faring in class and when the kids were asked in the end what’s one word that would best describe how they feel about school so far, they chose the word: “Happy”!
No, it was not to have buffet lunch at Feria but last July 11th (Fri), the whole class of Primary 6 and Secondary 1 went to the Radisson Blu to “walk in the shoes” of those doing housekeeping and laundry. Read more about it in the school blog.
As per a P4’s description: “WISES means Walking In Someone Else’s Shoes. It’s an event where we Singapore School Cebu pupils, work as employees in our assigned stores.” This is to promote the values of empathy and compassion as pupils take on roles of adults in the community!
Last 14-15 July, SSC conducted a school-wide orientation and actual drill to ensure all our staff and pupils are fully aware on preventive measures as well as what to do when a fire or earthquake occurs. Keep safe always SSC!

It has been raining much of this week but last Saturday, the 28th of June – the sun was up all morning, to enable a successful Football Varsity Try Outs for those interested to be part of the official SSC Teams for SY2014-2015.
Last week saw Primary pupils deliberating which Club they shall choose for this school year and to help them make that decision, Club auditions were held last 18 June which included Arts, Glee, I.T., Multimedia, TKD and Football!
Mabuhay! In celebration of Philippine Independence Day which falls on the 12th of June, our SSC pupils from PreSchool, Lower Primary, Upper Primary & Secondary went to school the day after the holiday decked in Filipino national garb, or simply in yellow! Of course, same with the Teachers and Staff!
