Mission Statement | Aspirations | Approach | Values
To train pupils to do higher thinking, and prepare them for globalisation.
Information is now available everywhere, anytime. Therefore, to be able to prepare the children for GLOBALISATION, they need to be trained to THINK and to do PROBLEM SOLVING, more than just memorising facts and information.
Our ASPIRATIONS FOR YOUR CHILD
The island state of Singapore rose to "first world" status despite the lack of natural resources. Instead, it considers its people the wealth of its nation. With a population of no more than 5 million people, the government invests heavily in the education and development of EACH citizen, as it strives to make every single person productive and useful to society.
We effect the same philosophy by aspiring that each pupil that attends SSC is fully attended to, provided equal opportunities and personlised challenges, exposed to high standards of education and levels of performance, to bring about the result of developing children to their full potential. That way, they grow to become good and productive citizens of the world who are able to cope with the challenges of the future.
We make use of world-class, modern teaching strategies and materials that have proven to be more effective in making the children of today learn and meet challenges, as opposed to traditional or conventional teaching methods that have caused pupils to feel overwhelmed, pressured or even traumatised. Our curriculum is therefore designed to give our children a positive attitude towards learning and school as a whole.
We also recognise each child's individuality, and therefore employ various learning techniques, to ensure that each type of pupil shall have the opportunity to grasp the concepts presented. Children are also paired based on their capacity to nurture each other's strengths and work on their respective weaknesses, as opposed to the traditional ways of grouping according to streams, i.e. all weak together, all strong together.
Class size is small, with no more than 10 pupils per PreSchool class, and no more that 20 pupils per Primary and Secondary class, to allow Teachers to monitor more closely and provide each child equal opportunity.
In their school work, pupils are asked to acquire both habit and skill. And as we strive for academic excellence, we give equal emphasis to the development of the child as a "whole" being. Part of such "holistic" program is training in different interests, which include music, arts, sports and martial arts classes, which are all included in their school day in SSC.
SSC is non-sectarian. Civics and Moral Education is taught starting in Primary School. Optional classes for specific religions are offered after school, and SSC likewise supports major milestones in relation to a child's particular faith.
SSC believes in positive discipline and upholds Asian values. We require and implement measures to ensure pupils will behave and conduct themselves appropriately.
