With charity funds running low, SSC organised BRAVEFEST School Fair in SY2023-2024 and raised enough funds to continue with the Friends for Umapad Feeding Programme. Donors were not just from the community; even educators from Singapore who were visiting responded with a donation upon hearing the school’s call to fundraise.
By School Year 2022-2023, Singapore School Cebu resumed its “Friends for Umapad” feeding programme with 60 beneficiaries attending Grades 5 & 6 at Umapad Elementary School. SSC also raised funds to provide masks to all 900+ UES pupils, given they were mandatory at the start of their resumption of face-to-face classes. Not to mention, there were enough funds to cover school uniforms after the pandemic saw more and more families struggle from the economic slowdown and rising costs. As a result, SSC received another recognition from the Philippine Department of Education for being one of the most active stakeholders in their Mandaue school division.
On 30 July 2018, the Philippine Department of Education gave recognition to Singapore School Cebu for being an “ACTIVE STAKEHOLDER” in their Mandaue school division. This award is after having sustained a feeding programme to some of Umapad Elementary School’s neediest children since 2014. Exclusive and unique to this outreach is the pairings and interactions between Lower Secondary Pupils from SSC to a Primary 5 or 6 Pupil from UES. From the initial funding source coming from SSC’s Advisory Board Member, Ms Rose Siow, the current feeding programme is now from funds raised by Winchester College’s Bramston’s House from the UK.
“Friends for Life” carries on providing some support for chosen beneficiaries who have graduated from Umapad Elementary School and were under the ‘’Friends for Umapad’ programme. Upper Secondary Pupils from SSC are now the ones keeping in touch and interacting with around 18 children who are currently attending Grade 7-9 in various public schools in Mandaue. Funding is provided by a variety of sources, including those generated by SSCians themselves through various initiatives.
A major school musicale was staged in February 2017, the story of which was based on the child scavengers from the Umapad dumpsite. Starring the whole school population of SSC, Heroes -We Can Be- was yet another school endeavour to highlight and foster the positive role SSCians can play in the community. Net proceeds of the school play went to providing some much-needed IT equipment to the Umapad Elementary School.
